Dr. Justin Spooner, the founder and lead psychiatrist at Ponte Vedra Psychiatry, specializes in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry. As a fellowship-trained psychiatrist, Dr. Spooner is renowned for employing cutting-edge, evidence-based treatments to address mental health, psychiatric disorders, and improve his patients’ lives.
Background and Education
Raised in a rural community in Rochester, NY, Dr. Spooner personally experienced challenges during high school which caused him to recognize the need for prioritizing emotional and social well-being in children and adolescents to become successful adults. This realization ignited his passion for helping others navigate their mental health journey and reach their full potential.
After high school, Dr. Justin K. Spooner began his academic journey at the University of Rochester, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He then obtained his Medical Doctorate from the University of Buffalo Medical School with research honors. Driven to excel in his field, he completed his residency at Tulane University and prestigious fellowships at Tulane University, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Indiana University.
Before founding Ponte Vedra Psychiatry, Dr. Spooner gained invaluable experience as the CEO and Chief Physician at Beaches Behavioral Medicine and Beaches Laser Spine and Pain, practicing both interventional pain management and psychiatry. After Beaches Laser Spine and Pain was acquired by Jax Spine and Pain in 2022, he went on to found Ponte Vedra Psychiatry. His other previous diverse roles have included serving as the Medical Director at Daniel Kids (the largest nonprofit child psychiatry foundation in Florida) and the Department of Juvenile Justice, as well as lecturing on psychiatric genetic testing and new pharmacological agents.
After settling in Ponte Vedra Beach, Dr. Spooner’s dedication to the field of psychiatry deepened when his son was diagnosed with developmental disabilities and Autism. As a parent of five children, one of which has special needs, Dr. Spooner empathizes with the desire to provide the best care for your child. Alongside his wife, Dr. Spooner has raised five children in Ponte Vedra and is thrilled to support this community, which has been so generous to them.
